Live counts while you write or edit

Type or paste text into the box and the statistics update immediately. The two main totals show words and characters, with additional counts for characters excluding whitespace, sentences, paragraphs and estimated reading time.

The tool is useful for form limits, essays, articles, product descriptions, speeches and social posts. Copy text back to the clipboard when you are finished, or clear the field to start again.

How each text statistic is counted

Words are groups separated by whitespace. Character totals include spaces and line breaks, while the no-spaces figure removes all whitespace. Paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line, and sentence detection looks for text ending around full stops, question marks or exclamation marks.

These practical rules work well for ordinary prose but may differ from the conventions used by a publishing platform, academic institution or programming environment.

Reading-time estimate

The estimate assumes 200 words per minute and rounds up to a whole minute.

A 750-word article therefore displays an estimated reading time of 4 minutes.

Private, browser-based text processing

The counts are calculated directly from the text in your browser and no account is required. Character conventions can still vary for combined emoji and specialised Unicode sequences, so check the destination’s own counter when a strict technical limit is critical.

FAQs

Questions about the word & character counter

Are spaces included in the character count?

Yes. The main character total includes whitespace, and a separate “Without spaces” statistic removes it.

How is reading time calculated?

The word total is divided by 200 words per minute and rounded up to the next whole minute.

What counts as a paragraph?

A paragraph is a non-empty block of text separated from another block by a blank line.

Does my text leave the browser?

The counting logic runs in the browser. The page does not require you to upload the text to Zacdaddy Tools.
