Choose two dates

The exact calendar difference and useful totals will appear here.

Weekdays exclude Saturdays and Sundays, but not public holidays.

Compare any two calendar dates

Choose a start and end date to see the difference as calendar years, months and days, as well as one total number of days. The calculator also breaks the period into full weeks plus remaining days and counts weekdays separately from weekend days.

If the dates are entered in reverse order, the tool automatically measures the same positive interval and makes the reversal clear. A swap button is available when you want to put them back in chronological order.

Inclusive and exclusive counting

By default, the calculation measures elapsed time and does not count the end date as an additional full day. Turn on “Include end date” when both boundary dates should be part of a schedule, booking or countdown.

Three-day example

1 June to 4 June is 3 elapsed days with the default setting.

Including the end date counts 1, 2, 3 and 4 June, giving 4 calendar days.

Choosing the right result

Use the calendar result when wording such as “two months and three days” matters. Use total days for deadlines or elapsed-time comparisons, and the weekday/weekend split for rough planning. Public holidays are not identified, so the weekday count is not the same as a business-day calculator.

  • Leap years and different month lengths are handled as calendar dates.
  • The range is limited to dates no more than 200 years apart.
  • Time zones and times of day are intentionally excluded.

FAQs

Questions about the date difference calculator

Does the date difference include the final day?

Not by default. Enable “Include end date” when you want both the start and end dates counted.

Does a weekday count exclude bank holidays?

No. It separates Monday to Friday from Saturday and Sunday but does not maintain a bank-holiday calendar.

What happens if the start date is later?

The calculator reverses the dates for the calculation and returns the positive time between them.

Can it compare times as well as dates?

No. It works with whole calendar dates and does not include hours, minutes, seconds or time-zone differences.
